Jersey Building Regulations
Why Oil Storage Tanks are a part of Building
Regulations
Jersey Building Regulations include Oil Storage Tanks to ensure recognition and compliance with
Part 3 Combustion Appliances and Fuel Storage Systems in consideration of the protection from fire
and the prevention of oil pollution.
All new and replacement Oil Storage Tanks are legally required to be notified to the Planning
Department to ensure that the installation can be inspected by a Building Control Officer to establish
full compliance with the Jersey Building Regulations.

Oil Storage Tank Risk
Assessment
Is your Oil Tank a safe distance away from any
opening into your home?
Is your Oil Tank a safe distance away from your
neighbours boundary?
It is considered to be very unlikely that a fire could
be started by a Domestic Oil Storage Tank and its
contents. It needs, however, to be protected from a
fire that may originate nearby.
Oil Storage Tank Risk
Assessment
Distances from non fire rated buildings or structures,
openings into buildings, boiler flue, non fire rated
boundary, foliage growth etc. are all identified for
reasons of protecting the Oil Storage Tank.
The Risk Assessment will identify if the installation
was undertaken in accordance with the
manufacturers installation instructions and Part 3
Combustion Appliances and Fuel Storage
Requirements.

required to be notified to the Planning Department.

Oil pollution of the environment is a major concern
and the environmental damage and costs of clearing
